Mahjong Rules

Mahjong is a classic Chinese game which might take you a bit of time to get the hang of. It is a fascinating game so it is well worth sticking at it. It is sometimes described as being a little like rummy, so if you know that game then you have a bit of an advantage right away.

How Does It Work

You start off by deciding on the maximum number of points which will be played for and then a dealer is appointed according to who gets the highest score on the dice. This player is the East while the others are all given directions as well.

The idea is then to collect tiles until you get some sort of complete set. When it is your turn you need to get rid of one tile and then choose another one. You will have 13 tiles in front of you, although when it is your turn to play you will 14 for a moment. The tiles themselves come in different types and with varying characters on them.

By matching tiles you can form sets called Eyes, Chows, Pungs and Kongs which will let you win the game.
As you can see, the rules are relatively complex and you will want to take your time before getting started on placing big wagers. Mahjong is one of the most strategic games you will find in online casinos, so if you want to get your brain working you will enjoy this challenge.

Choosing a Mahjong Game

To get started off you will want to pick a nice, slow game which is clear and easy to follow. Once you are comfortable with the rules you can then look for a version which really suits you. The layout, the visual aspect and even the types of tile vary from one site to another, although the basic game is always the same.

This means that once you are up to a decent standard in Mahjong you can try out a lot of different versions to keep it interesting for you.

Carry on Playing

It will take you a while just to get your head round the basic rules and gameplay, never mind understand all of the complexities of Mahjong. Because of this it is one of the most durable online casino games.

If you get hooked on the strategies and combinations of this ancient game then you will no doubt be back to play it a lot.
