ASA Gambling Advertising Seminar Sells Out
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) is an independent advertising regulator based in the UK. They make sure that all the advertising codes written by the CAP (Committee of Advertising) are followed stringently. Their work includes looking into complaints filled by the public, and of course regularly checking all media outlets for any breaches.
As online gambling has grown in popularity, it has also become more widely advertised. There has always been strict gambling related UK advertising codes; however, they are rather complex, which has led to some companies breaking codes, and not even realising it. This has not only caused more work for the ASA, but has also resulted in additional costs for gambling companies, as they would have to either pull their advertising, or change it to fit in with the codes.
CAP and BCAP (Broadcast Committee of Advertising Practice) decided to launch a new help note on gambling advertising that should assist the gambling industry to comply with the various different advertising codes. To go alongside the new help notes, they were also running a two and half hour seminar in London at the end of March. This has already sold out; however, if you are interested they are taking names to add to a waiting list. Find more info here.
